Very Well Made Case for a Great GPS, June 9, 2008

I have not always been happy with Garmin’s cases for their GPS receivers. The case that they made for my 60CSx was awful. This case for the new Colorado unit is a completely different story.

What I like about it is that you have two different mounting options. One is to use the removable carabiner (or “D” ring) to clip onto your belt, belt loop, bag strap, etc. The other is a velcro strap that allows you to hook it on your belt without having to practically take your belt off (as you do with a simple sewn closed loop). Both secure the case well, however I prefer the velcro loop since the carabiner looks a little too mountain-climby for me when I am geocaching in an urban setting.

The case is closed with a standard clip that allows for one-hand operation. The front of the case drops open giving the user access to the GPSr. I was worried at first that when you open the case the unit might fall out. This seems to be a real possibility in my tests, but you have to be at an awkward angle for it to happen (which is very likely when mountaineering, geocaching, rock climbing or even hiking ). Also, you can close the case without the groves being lined up and hence off-set. I have to believe that this would compromise the water-resistance of the case.

Overall I really like this Garmin case. It is a well thought out accessory for the Colorado GPSr. It will certainly protect your investment and look pretty cool while doing it.

Great case, but be sure you need it., August 15, 2008

This case does just what it should, and does it well. My only caution — be sure you need and will use it. I ordered it when I ordered the Garmin. The Garmin came with a very stout and secure carabiner clip on. The Garmin itself is sturdy, and I just haven’t felt the need for this semi-hard case. If I had it to do over again, I probably wouldn’t get it. Again, that’s not because it’s not a very good case; it’s only because I don’t find myself needing or using it.

Offers no protection, September 8, 2008

Other than acting as a hard case to prevent bumps to your GPS, this case offers no additional protection to a very expensive investment. I expected the case to seal around the edges, but it does not (the only thing keeping the case closed is that little clip in the picture… I mistakingly thought it also zipped around the edges). So there’s nothing preventing dirt, water, etc, from going right into the sides of the case. I use my GPS for fieldwork, and this case definitely wouldn’t cut it. I returned mine, and certainly would not recommend this case to anyone.

Nice item, could be better!, September 11, 2008

I like this item, it provides good protection from bumping your gps into things. I would really like it to be air tight to keep sand out, it has a gap in the seem that will let in dirt and water. Not good for Iraq.

Disappointing, August 31, 2008

I figured after the money spent on the Colorado from Garmin, they would have had a sweet hard case for this. I guess being an Otterbox user, I was expecting more. It was a hard case, but seemed cheaply made.

Great Case!, March 2, 2010

This case fits the gps perfectly and is durable. I think it would be nice if it had a zipper though.

Great case!, February 17, 2010

This is a great case and I love it for carrying my GPS. The only improvement that could be made is a place for a spare set of batteries.

Garmin Hard Carrying Case for Colorado Handheld GPS Units, October 24, 2009

Case is VERY function for use on belt or attached to backpack or briefcase. Formed semi-hard shell provides good protection. One improvement would be to limit the opening angle of the front cover to about 45-degrees or less vs the current 90-degrees and add more webbing to the side so that the unit cannot fall out even with the cover open.

Rugged, sturdy case for the colorado, January 25, 2009

This case, about the only case for colorado, is rugged and protects the unit from dirt, and the environment.
